so, if you've read any of my stitch fix posts, you'll know i've been hunting for white dresses for my various wedding events. being the bride, i wanted to wear white dresses. of course i started the hunt for white dresses in january - which is NOT white dress season. but my first event was going to be in march and i wanted to be sure i found something that i loved. i did find at least 5 dresses that i did love enough to order. however, i will only be wearing 3 of them for my events (bridal shower, bachelorette party and rehearsal dinner). the other 2 will maybe get to see st. lucia with me on our honeymoon.
asos petite textured full midi dress $93.19
this is the dress i wore for my
bridal shower in march at the rose garden. i paired it with my steven madden sandalia sandals in floral. this dress was absolutely comfortable. i wanted something to be a little bit modest since both my family and matt's family would be attending the shower. i also wanted something on the longer side since i would have to open gifts in front of everyone and didn't want to give anyone a show.. the beehive pattern on the dress is textured and gives the dress a more 'expensive' feel. the beehive pattern is on the sheer layer of the dress and a thicker white layer is underneath. the only 'flaw' i would say with the dress is that the beehive pattern made the skirt sit funny when i sat down at the table. but that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me at all. just had to work with it a little to lay down properly. i love this dress! oh, and i bought it in petite which was awesome. usually midi dresses hit me funny since i'm only 5'1 but this hit me right below the knee like it should.
paul kevin women's skater mesh transparent evening party mini dress $26.99
this dress is the dress i plan to wear at my bachelorette party in april. i wanted something a little more risque but still tasteful. i found this dress on amazon and fell in love with the black version. i was happy to find that it also came in white. now, this dress is cheaply made. strings hanging off of seams. thin material. but it fits pretty well and i like the mesh detail. i'm not sure if it'll last through the washing machine but i don't know if i would ever really wear this dress again.. so, it would be fine if it doesn't.. anyway, just fyi in an amazon comment someone did say it fell apart after wearing it once. my other annoyance with this dress is the boob area. i'm not really blessed in that department. and i have to wear a bra. even with a strapless bra you can still see it in the mesh portion above the boob cutout depending how the dress lays. so, you have to stay conscious of that. something else to pay attention to is you can't bend over in this dress without exposing yourself. either because the skirt is too short or because the last row of mesh will be revealing. finally, i hate that i have to put on/take off this dress over my head. the zipper is on the side. i hate that because it's a higher chance i'll get make up all over it. but lastly - this is literally probably wear one time kind of dress and it'll serve it's purpose for a girls night out. (hate that i was a hater on this dress but i wanted to be honest)
day and foliage blue and ivory floral print dress $56
this dress will be worn at our rehearsal dinner. i initially bought this dress when i thought i would be going to the ky derby for my bachelorette party but who knew this year it would be scheduled on mother's day weekend and most of my girls are moms! ugh. but i loooove this dress. it's really comfortable. i love the over sized floral detail. and on the back there is a cut out in the lower back area. it's such a fun unexpected detail. and i can still wear a bra! yay! i paired this dress with shoes i intend to wear for my wedding day. they'll be my something blue. however, i bought them many years ago from nine west and have been saving them for my wedding day (i'm weird, i know) and so they're no longer available to purchase. but i wanted to wear these shoes during the rehearsal so that i can see if they'll be comfortable for the wedding day. anyway, the dress, the material for this dress is a little bit heavier/thicker. it fits perfectly. since there is a cut out in the back, there are 2 separate zippers in the back that hold the dress together. it's perfect for a derby day or rehearsal dinner!
pleats and thanks ivory lace skater dress $48
this dress i bought thinking i would wear it for either rehearsal or bachelorette. however, after receiving it, i didn't like how it fit at the boob area. again, i'm not blessed so it didn't fit me well or looked flattering on me. i also wasn't a huge fan of the waist part where the skirt meets the top. i don't really feel like a triangle waist line is very flattering on me. and lastly, i couldn't handle the neckline. it felt like it was cutting in to my throat. which i had to adjust the straps that way to keep my boobs in the top. so maybe if i could get the top altered i could adjust the straps so that the neckline lays on me properly. but i'm not sure if i'll keep this dress or pass it along to someone that would look better in it than i did.
fun loving ivory skater dress $49
this last dress was going to be an option for the bridal shower. however, after receiving it, i felt that it was too much of a casual dress than what i was wanting for my bridal shower. it has a zipper up the back. it's more of a thicker cottony feeling dress. there is two layers to the skirt. and it's very comfortable and soft when i have it on. however, i did wash and dry this dress to try to shrink it down a little to fit me a little better buuuuuuut the top skirt part shrunk up and now reveals the bottom layer. whyyyyy!? so, i had to wash it again and let it air dry so that i could tug on that top layer and stretch it back out. ugh. i still feel like it exposes that bottom layer too much. so, i'm not wearing this dress for any of my bride occasions. i will wear it on our honeymoon or for a date night as a more casual dress when the timing is right.
i got most of these dresses from
lulu's. one came from
asos. and one came from
amazon. i feel like lulu's runs a little bit bigger than like
forever 21. the dresses i purchased from them were in the size small and i feel like an XS would've suited me better. asos size 4 fits me perfectly. i have yet to be disappointed with anything i've ever ordered from asos. i really really love that they have tall and petite options and are relatively decently priced. finally, amazon is hit or miss when it comes for clothing. always always always read comments on amazon to see other people's experience before buying. and i love that some people will post pictures of them wearing the clothes in their reviews. they're so helpful when making a wiser choice on amazon.
now that it is officially spring there are so many more white dress options available. i would definitely check out those websites if you're on a white dress hunt like myself!
