stitch fix #1

so, i recently posted a comparison of boxycharm vs. ipsy. i had been a subscriber to ipsy for 2 years and have been with boxycharm for about a year.  my renewal for ipsy was sneaking up on me right before christmas and i had to make a decision - to keep or not to keep?  ultimately i decided to unsubscribe to ipsy. i know!  i'm a little tore up over losing out on a monthly makeup bag that i can use for organizing and what not.  however, i had tons of make up samples and hair samples with the two subscriptions and after 2 years, i decided it was time to try something new.

originally i wanted to do a subscription with food for matt and i.  but then i decided i didn't want to share.  (i know, i'm a terrible only child) and so i went with stitch fix.

if you haven't ever heard of stitch fix, they are a subscription that basically assigns a stylist to you that picks out 5 different pieces of clothing and mails them to you for $20.  you get to try on the clothes and decide if you want to keep them.  if you do, then you keep however many pieces and stitch fix will charge you the cost of the clothes minus your $20 you paid to get the box.  the items you don't want, you place in a prestamped bag and mail it back usps to them.  during checkout you can state what you loved/hated about each item.  if you buy all 5 items, you get a 25% discount and you still subtract your $20.  you get 3 days to try on and decide before they expect you to check out.

now, this is my first fix.  and i will say that i was slightly upset when i opened the box and pulled my clothes out.  when i did my profile, i stated i wanted white dresses for my upcoming wedding events (bachelorette, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, post wedding) and i didn't receive any.  now, i know we are not in the season for white clothing.  but you cannot tell me you couldn't find a single white dress.  however, after trying on all of the options, i did feel better about her choices and ended up keeping a few of the items.  below is what i received.

your clothes comes in a box.  and is neatly packaged.  inside your clothes will be nicely folded and wrapped in tissue paper.  there will be a prestamped bag for your returns and a card stating what's in the box, how to pair it with other items you may have in your closet and a cost sheet.

1. Collette Anatagio Lace Cross Back Knit Top $58.00 - Returned
i wasn't a large fan of this for many reasons.  one, it looks like something i can get a local department store for less than $58.  the draping makes it look like i put it on backwards.  i don't need a lace peek-a-boo to highlight that i may have put this shirt on wrong.  why is it so short? i don't like shirts that hit me right at the waist.  i like for them to cover my lady regions since i mostly wear skinny jeans.  Returned.

2.  Brixon Ivy Sylvester Split Neck Blouse $54.00 - Kept

i looooooooooooooooove this top.  it's long in the front and back.  easily worn with skinny jeans or leggings.  or tucked in to a pair of slacks.  i love the detailing on the sleeves and i love the neckline.  the color is amazing! i love tops that i can pair with slacks for work but can get away with wearing on the weekends to run errands.  Kept!

3.  Crescent Oxley Double Breasted Cargo Jacket $88.00  - Returned
hate it.  there's no shape.  it's too boxy.  it made me look like a box on legs.  i am thin and tiny.  i have no really shape.  i need pieces that will give the illusion that i'm a shapely woman and not a box on legs.  also, i have a jacket similar to this already that i never wear because it gives me no shape at all.  Returned!

4.  Margaret M Emer Printed Cropped Straight Leg Pant $98.00 - Kept
i love that their stretch waist.  that i can just pull them on like leggings.  i love that they hit right above my ankles so they look like real capri pants on me instead of high waters or normal pants.  the joys of being short.  i can wear these on the weekend because they're so comfortable.  or i can dress them up for the office.  again, i love the versatility! Kept.

5.  Muse Anatoia Dress $74.00 - Returned
so, i struggled on this one a little.  i liked the cut. i liked the fabric and the way it fit me.  however, i did request WHITE dresses and this is pink.  i feel like this would be perfect for a bridal shower or someone else's wedding.  however, i want to be in white in all my events so that it's clear that i'm the bride.  it's weird.  but i like a theme.  also, if i don't wear white, i will wear either khaki, black or gold since that's my wedding colors.  i am a girl about a theme!  anyway, after talking it over with matt, i decided i would probably not wear it enough to justify it's price.  Returned.

in total - if i bought all 5 items, i would have spent $372 - $93 discount - $20 = $259.00
but i didn't buy all 5, so i spent $54 + $98 - $20 = $132.00

overall, it was fun trying on everything and seeing what a stylist would pick for me.  i didn't mention before but you can link a pinterest board to your profile so that they can get a sense of your style from your pins.  anyway, i have another one coming at the end of the month (you can decide how often you want it - like occasional if you have an event coming up or even as much as every 2 weeks!) i'm hoping my second box is better since i was descriptive in my check out and pinned more stuff to my board.

i think this is a great service for someone who doesn't shop often, doesn't like to shop, isn't very good at picking out stylish options when they are shopping oooooooooor just wanting to add some items to your closet that aren't so readily available in a small town where everyone shops at the same stores.  yes, i've been twins many a times in my life..  so, i will probably keep doing this service a few more times and see if it gets better after a few boxes.
